Joshua Scott scored 31 points for Thomas University Saturday afternoon in the Night Hawks' 72-71 loss to St. Thomas University at the TU Gymnasium.
The loss was TU's second straight one-point defeat in as many games, after falling 69-68 to Florida Memorial University on Thursday.
Thomas trailed 36-34 at the half, then took the 37-36 lead just 90 seconds into the second period. TU trailed by as many as five points in the second period, but regained the lead, 69-67, with 43 seconds remaining as Scott hit a 3-pointer. Over the next eight seconds, STU converted a 3-point play to go ahead by one, then Scott countered with a pair of made free throws with 15 seconds remaining. After an STU timeout with nine seconds left, the Bobcats hit a layup to win, 72-71.
Against the Bobcats, Scott posted his eighth game of the season with more than 20 points, and his first outing this season with 30. He has scored 23-or-more points in his last three games. Scott was 12-of-21 from the field, 3-of-5 from three and 4-of-5 at the line on Saturday. He also tallied four rebounds and two assists in 33 minutes.
Desean Enzor posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, along with a pair of blocks, while
Daniel Merrius had 12 points and five rebounds for TU.
Thomas next hits the road to face Webber International in Babson Park, Fla, Jan. 16 at 7:30 p.m.
