LAKELAND, Fla. –
Sean Kostyk hit a last-second 3-pointer to push Thomas University men's basketball past No. 20 Southeastern, 71-70, Saturday afternoon.
SEU held a two-point lead with 18 seconds remaining, then Kostyk drained a three with one second left to win the game for Thomas.
Thomas improves to 13-12 overall and 9-8 in the league, which places TU seventh in the Sun Conference standings. Third-place Southeastern falls to 18-8, 11-5.
The Night Hawks hit 55.4 percent (31-56) from the field and 35.7 percent (5-14) from three while holding Southeastern to 45.5 percent (25-55) overall and 25.0 percent (3-12) from long range.
Joshua Scott notched his 11th 20-point game of the season, hitting 11-of-15 from the field on his way to 24 points.
Cedric Wright added 12 points and seven rebounds while
Trint Bryant dished out five assists for TU.
After taking a commanding 47-27 first-half lead, the Night Hawks held a 20-point lead with 10:42 remaining in the game. The Fire fought back, outscoring TU 30-11 in the final 10:30 to make it a one-point game.
Thomas wraps up the regular season Feb. 16 in Brunswick, Ga., when the Night Hawks take on College of Coastal Georgia.
