THOMASVILLE, Ga. - The Thomas University men's basketball team returns home this week for two critical Sun Conference matches beginning with Southeastern University on Wednesday and culminating with St. Thomas University on Saturday.
TU (10-14, 5-7 TSC) has now pulled off two consecutive upsets, including a recent 73-68 victory over the STU Bobcats on Monday night in Miami Gardens, Fla. The Night Hawks had four players in double-digits in scoring in junior
Adonai Rogers (17), sophomore
Javoris Cooks (13), junior
Devonte Birdsong (13) and senior Andre Robinson (12). Thanks to the win over STU, Thomas is still in the hunt to host a home game in the quarterfinal of the Sun Conference tournament. TU, with only four games remaining, will most likely need to win out and needs help from other TSC results.
Southeastern (15-11, 5-8 TSC) trail a half game behind Thomas in the standings and will look to sweep the season series against the Night Hawks. SEU dominated Thomas 94-69, at the Furnace, earlier this season. Senior guard Jake Hodges leads the Fire in points per game (16.50). Senior guard Matt Crowe has proven to be a deadly threat when it comes to shooting threes. Crowe's three-point percentage (51.9) is an NAIA Division II best, which has been a major factor for the team's overall three-point FG percentage (42.2), ranking the Fire second in NAIA Division II in that respective category.
To avoid being swept by Thomas, St. Thomas (14-8, 8-4 TSC) will be looking for more players to step up like sophomore guard Tim Sada, whose free throw percentage (90.0) and three-point FG percentage (43.3) have helped the Bobcats win a few close games. Sada's three-point FG percentage is ranked 38th in NAIA Division II. Junior guard Michael Walker and freshman center Raheem Bowman continue to be the backbone to STU's success.
Tipoff against Southeastern is slated for 5 p.m. while Saturday's tipoff against St. Thomas is set for 4 p.m.
