Box Score NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – The TU men's basketball season came to an end on Thursday evening, falling, 78-75, in a Sun Conference Quarter-Final OT thriller against #4 seeded Johnson & Wales University.
TU & JWU exchanged early baskets in the early going before sophomore
Javoris Cooks gave the Night Hawks a four point advantage, 10-6, on a three pointer with 15:32 on the clock. One minute later the Wildcats would take a one point advantage but Thomas would respond, re-taking the lead, 12-11, less than a minute later. The Night Hawks eventually opened a ten point advantage, their largest of the half, at the 7:09 mark on a bucket by junior
Devonte Birdsong. Thomas would not relinquish the lead the remainder of the way, but Johnson & Wales would close the margin to one, 40-39, before the half.
The teams exchanged leads eight teams in the second half before TU took a 50-49 lead with 12:38 to play. Thomas made it 52-49 thirty seconds later but JWU would respond to the game at 52. With 5:38 to play, the teams would once again find themselves notched, 60-60, and after a TU bucket made it a two point game, Johnson & Wales would once again respond to tie the game at 62. Andrea Robinson would make it a 70-64 game with 2:11 to play. JWU would chip away and eventually take a one point, 71-70, lead with 41 seconds to play. A Wildcat free throw gave them a two point advantage, with nine seconds to go, but they fail to convert the second and would send Robinson to line with a chance to tie the game. Robinson missed the front end of a one & one but the rebound would bounce in favor of the Night Hawks to set up an opportunity to tie the game. On the inbounds, junior
Adonai Rogers would be found alone in the paint for the easy game tying bucket.
TU took the early lead in OT but JWU, as they did all night, would respond immediately and never looked back, sealing their victory and their passage into the TSC semi's.
Cooks led the Night Hawks with 16 points while Rogers contributed 11. Promising freshman
Jalen Bonds dropped ten points. Robinson, playing in his final game, collected ten boards and added six points.
