THOMASVILLE, Ga. - The Thomas University men's basketball team will begin their 2016 Sun Conference tournament run Thursday when they travel to North Miami, Fla. to face Johnson & Wales University.
Thomas (12-17, 6-10 TSC), enters the conference as the fifth seed despite a tied conference record over Webber International. TU won the tiebreaker over WIU thanks to a split series with St. Thomas while Webber was swept by the Bobcats.
The Night Hawks enter the tournament after dropping their last three games of the season. Sophomore
Javoris Cooks leads TU in points per game at 13.66. Senior
Andrea Robinson continues to lead the Night Hawks in boards a game (6.97) while junior
Mike Lyons leads TU in assists (4.39) and steals a game (1.04). Junior
Adonai Rogers is on a nine-game double-digits point scoring streak.
Johnson & Wales (16-9, 10-6 TSC) will enter the tournament as the Sun Conference's fourth seed, having
dropped four of its last five games. Junior forward Ricardo Suarez leads the Wildcats in points (15.36), rebounds (9.24), assists (3.12) and steals per game (2.12). Senior forward Ralph Nin leads the team in blocks per game (1.44). Junior Frank Bennett is third in NAIA Division II in average three-pointers made a game (3.92) while averaging 14.00 points per game.
TU & JWU split their regular season series. JWU picked up the home win, 73-57, on January 21
st, while TU picked up their home victory, 78-61, on February 6
th.
Tipoff at the Wildcat Center is set for 7 p.m.
