Williams’ Buzzer Beater Pushes TU Past Reinhardt

WALESKA, Ga. – Jamison Williams sank a jumper as time expired that propelled the Thomas University men's basketball team over Reinhardt, 95-93, on Wednesday at the Brown Athletic Center.

The Night Hawks remain a perfect 4-0 on the year, while the Eagles went to 4-1 on the season. TU travels to NCAA Division I Georgia State at 7 p.m. on Friday in Atlanta.

Javoris Cooks led the Night Hawks with 28 points, while Katrell Myers recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Jalen Bonds scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Traevon Gresham added 12 points.

TU ran out to a 14-5 lead early in the game. The Eagles closed the gap to a possession at 20-17 on two made free throws from Melvin Irvin. Gresham converted an and one and extended the TU lead back out to 28-19.

Bonds converted a jumper in transition that put the Night Hawks up 33-23 with less than six minutes left in the first half. The Eagles pulled within two at 35-33 on made free throws by Matt Misner. Cooks knocked down a three-pointer that gave the Night Hawks a 46-38 lead at halftime.

Williams converted a layup that gave TU a 66-49 lead with less than 16 minutes left, it's largest lead of the game. The Eagles went on an 8-0 and shrank the lead to 80-76 with six and a half minutes left in the game. Reinhardt then went on a 9-0 run and took an 89-87 lead with less than three minutes to play.

Myers tied the game at 92-92 on a made free throw before Tre' Ford converted another free throw and gave TU a one point lead. Samuel Bunkley put the Eagles up one with 16 seconds remaining. Cooks missed the go ahead three-pointer before Williams collected the offensive rebound and sank the game winning jumper as time expired.
