Night Hawks Pass Century Mark in Season Opening Win

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University men's basketball team knocked off Point University (Ga.) 101-67 Friday night at the TU Gymnasium in the season opener. TU shot 52.6 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from beyond the three-point line.

The Night Hawks travel to Albany State University (Ga.) for a 7:30 p.m. game on Thursday.

Jalen Bonds and Javoris Cooks scored a game high 19 points, while Bonds tied the game high with eight rebounds. Traevon Gresham added 14 points and four rebounds, while Katrell Myers produced 12 points.

The Seahawks opened the game up on an 8-0, their largest lead of the game, before TU cut the lead to 8-4. Bonds converted a free throw that cut the Point lead to 13-11. Cooks connected on a three that tied the game at 16-16. The Night Hawks then went on a 15-3 run and held a 31-19 lead.

TU closed the half with an 8-0 run and held a 48-31 lead at the break.

Point opened the second half with a 5-0 run before TJ Riles stalled it with a layup. The Night Hawks ran away with a 13-3 run and opened the gap to 65-42 with under 14 minutes to play. TU then went on a 12-2 run and extended the lead to 77-48.

DJ Roulhac sank a three with 28 seconds remaining that pushed TU over the century mark for the last bucket of the game.

The Night Hawks held a 58-12 points in the paint advantage and a 19-5 second change points advantage.
