THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University men's basketball team (2-1), which is coming off of its first defeat of the 2015-16 season, will make its home debut on Nov. 11 versus Brewton-Parker. The Night Hawks and Barons have formed a competitive non-conference rivalry over the course of the last two seasons, as the schools have split four meetings since the 2013-14 season. In fact, the last four meetings have been so close, the total combined score of the contests is 282-264 in favor of the Barons. TU will try to change that Wednesday night.
The Night Hawks have been consistent in the early going, posting a respectable 2-1 record in three road games and holding opponents under 70 points on two separate occasions.
Javoris Cooks and
Adonai Rogers have led the way offensively for head coach
Brent Crews in the early going, as the duo is averaging 15.3 and 12.7 points per game, respectively.
Mike Lyons has also provided a significant scoring boost for TU, as he's currently averaging 13 points per game despite playing just 54 total minutes.
The Barons, the Night Hawks' next opponent, started the year ranked 33rd nationally after a 2014 season that saw the team post 15 victories in one of the best years in school history. Brewton-Parker's lone win of the season thus far came versus Morris College.
The Barons are without three All-Conference performers from a season ago, but the team is receiving significant scoring contributions from McKel Miller, Jakari Bush and Deion Bernard, as the scoring trio is currently averaging 24, 14.3 and 14 points per game, respectively.
The Night Hawks rebounding has been the team's strongest statistical asset so far, as TU has outrebounded opponents by nearly five boards per game.
Andrea Robinson leads Thomas with 8.7 rebounds per game, followed by
Adonai Rogers with six per game and
Jamison Williams with just over four per game.
Thomas will look to move to 3-1 on the season and win head coach
Brent Crews' home opener on Wednesday. The team will honor veterans at halftime as a part of Veterans Day festivities. For more information on the ceremony, contact Pam Cook at
