Night Hawks Stalled by Bobcats, Lose 68-64

Jason Hendrix | Sports Information Director | @JasonHendrixSID

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Thomas University men's basketball team fell at the hands of their Sun Conference rival this afternoon as the St. Thomas University Bobcats handed the Night Hawks the 68-64 loss on the road.

The Night Hawks, who end their four day road trip to south Florida with one win and one loss, return to Thomasville after a crushing loss down the stretch.  Thomas was down by 14, 37-23, at the break and pulled within two points, 64-62, with under a minute remaining in regulation.  When the Night Hawks attempted to tie the game late, the squad buckled under the pressure and missed free throws from the charity stripe sending the Bobcats to the 68-64 victory at the Fernandez Family Center.

Sophomore Adonai Rogers led the Night Hawks in scoring collecting 16 points.  The Lawrenceville, Ga., native also brought down four rebounds and dished out two assists. Three other Night Hawks were in double figures for the game.  Marcus Humose contributed 12 points while Alan Love added 11 points with six rebounds.  Sophomore guard TJ Rines netted 10 points in the losing effort.

Both teams shot an identical 40 percent from the field, but the Bobcats outrebounded the Night Hawks 43-29 including a 16-9 advantage on the offensive board.

"We got hammered on the glass," stated head coach Stephen Cox.  "We played well in second half. While we were down 15 at one point, we cut it to two with a minute or so to go. Good for the guys to stay tough. We just got down by too many [points] in first to pull out the win."

Thomas drops to 14-7, 5-6 in TSC play, while St. Thomas improves to 11-9, 6-5 on the year.

The Night Hawks return to action on Thursday, Feb. 5 when they travel to Lake Wales, Fla., to face off with Sun Conference rival Warner University.  Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
