Grace’s Hot Hand Leads TU in Route of WIU

The hot hand of junior guard Max Grace led TU (12-7, 5-4) to a 88-68 route of Webber International University (7-13, 3-6) on Saturday evening at the TU Gymnasium. Their fourth Sun Conference victory in a row.

Grace started the game 5-5 from behind the arc and in the first 10 minutes scored 17 of the Night Hawks 24 points. Thomas outscored the Warriors 24-11 in the first 10 minutes. The second ten minutes of the half Webber outscored the Night Hawks 16-13 to make it an right point game at the half.

Thomas had the ball coming out to start the second half and opened the half with a huge alley-oop pass from freshman guard Trey Gosier to the high flying hands of senior Justyn Watkins for the slam, bringing the home crowd to their feet with a wild ovation. WIU would battle back to bring the game to within 5 with 14:20 left on the clock, but TU just kept making big defensive plays and went on an 11-0 run at the 10 minute mark of the second half to put the Night Hawks up by 22, 68-46. Thomas controlled the scoreboard the rest of the way to get them one game above .500 in TSC play.

Grace led the way for the Night Hawks with 32 points, with a perfect 6-6 from behind the arc and 8-8 from the foul line. Watkins added 21 points with two alley-oop slams. Junior Rodney Sturkie ended the game with 14 points going 6-8 from the field. The big man underneath, sophomore Andrea Robinson, came down with 10 boards to add to the victory.

Men's basketball will be back in actionThursday January 30th when they travel to Miami Gardens, Fla. to face Florida Memorial. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
